MOTORSPORT WEEK

All this week speed-blur’s going to have a motorsport theme. Why? Because we can and because the cars are some of the most focused bits of man-controlled machinery you can find. Hope you enjoy it all.

To get you in the mood in the meantime, start having a think about your dream motorsport garage. You can have one car from each of the following categories;

* Group B rally

* WRC

* Touring Car

* Endurance

* GT

* Classic

You could pretty much take any car in each category and be a happy chap. If we had to join in though, we might be tempted to go this way – all cars that any wheelman would surely be proud to pilot;

Group B rally – Peugeot 205 T16. Up against equally incredible competition, but all things considered – looks, sound, the way it accelerates – the Pug wins. You may disagree. That is totally fair enough in this category.

WRC – The great-looking 206 WRC might have won out, if not for the above (we couldn’t have two Peugeots in this limited garage). So we’ll take an Escort Cosworth WRC (which is a shame as we’d also like any of the Impreza WRC cars too)

Touring car – DTM Mercedes 190. Purely for the fact they also produced a limited road-going version that looked just as bonkers.

Endurance – Le Mans winning Bentley Speed 8. Few endurance racers have ever stirred us like this car.

GT – Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 (pic from lambocars.com). You only have to look at the picture to see why.

Classic - can’t not have a Porsche 911 in here somewhere!
